The Government of Ontario announced the start of construction of Scarborough Health Network’s new emergency department at Centenary Hospital.
Supported by a provincial investment of more than $82 million, the new state-of-the-art emergency department will be more than 36,000 square feet larger than the hospital’s existing emergency department, expanding capacity to meet the needs of Scarborough’s growing population.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Scarborough can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “With construction starting on Centenary Hospital’s new and expanded emergency department, we are taking an important step forward in connecting more people and their families in Scarborough to the world-class emergency care they need and deserve, for generations to come.”

The new state-of-the-art emergency department will reduce wait times, streamline care and deliver world-class infrastructure to better support the needs of Scarborough’s growing population. This expansion will address current and future demand for emergency services, ease congestion, improve patient and staff flow and replace aged infrastructure. This will provide Scarborough Health Network with the additional capacity it needs to better care for the more than 200,000 patients it receives every year in its three emergency departments.
