Nova Scotia Health announced that newly opened Antigonish Community Health Clinic will accommodate more than 30 healthcare professionals and support more than 10,000 patients.
Several existing clinics and doctors in the area are relocating to the new health home just east of the town of Antigonish.
“We continue to support access to primary healthcare for Nova Scotians in new and modern facilities, with teams that can deliver collaborative and comprehensive care,” said Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness. “New and modern facilities help us to recruit and retain providers, and this clinic will help support the current and future healthcare needs of Antigonish and the broader community.”
The new space has 36 clinic rooms, including six charting stations, three collaborative team rooms and a family room, which is reserved for conversations about care, infant feeding, accommodating sensory needs and more. There are also three patient education rooms, offices and a shared waiting room.
So far, two clinics – Antigonish Family Practice and 220 Main Street Health – and an individual physician in the community have relocated, and they began seeing patients April 7. Next, 220 Main Collaborative Family Practice will be in the new health home, followed by Antigonish Primary Care Collaborative (Superstore) Clinic by May 31.
Patients will have access to a range of primary care team members, with same-day and next-day appointments, extended hours and virtual care options when fully operational as of May 31.
“The opening of the Antigonish Community Health Clinic is an exciting milestone for our community. We are strengthening our capacity to recruit and retain healthcare professionals by offering a modern, team‑based setting designed to meet the needs of today’s healthcare providers and to support the long‑term stability of care in our community,” said Dr. Jane Anne Howard, physician co-lead, Antigonish Community Health Clinic.
Construction on the clinic started in July 2024
