Following the dynamic tests carried out in recent months, CDPQ Infra and the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) operator, GPMMOM, formed by Alstom and AtkinsRéalis, confirmd that the Deux-Montagnes branch could be put into service in November 2025. The precise date will be communicated in the coming weeks based on the dry run, a stage during which the REM is tested all day, with the frequency and number of trains reflecting the actual service, and which represents the last phase before commercial service is put into operation.
“The Deux-Montagnes branch has been long-awaited. We are pleased to confirm its commissioning in November. We are working tirelessly with our partners to provide users with a structured means of transportation that will be effective for decades to come,” said Jean-Marc Arbaud, president and CEO, CDPQ Infra
The Anse-à-l’Orme branch will be commissioned next spring to allow the operator to gradually manage the addition of branches and cars, on a network that will grow from 17 km to 67 km once the three branches are in operation. With the addition of the Deux-Montagnes branch in November, the REM network in service will reach 50 km, including 19 stations in operation.
The Réseau express métropolitain project is No. 9 on ReNew Canada’s 2025 Top100 Projects report.
“The past few months have demonstrated our teams’ commitment to strengthening their capabilities to operate a large-scale network and the importance of moving forward in stages. This approach will allow us to ensure a quality experience that meets the expectations of users who will be using the REM starting in November,” said Loïc Cordelle, general director, GPMMOM.
This two-stage commissioning will also allow our operator to offer a reliable service to users, and for teams to continue the tests currently underway on the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, while allowing the ARTM to ensure the implementation of feeder plans to the REM stations.
“The ARTM and its partners are ready to welcome this major project, which will transform the way we travel in the metropolitan area. We have worked hard in advance to ensure that the REM integrates seamlessly into the existing network. Our teams are fully mobilized to ensure that the REM’s commissioning is smooth, with an efficient transition and quality service for users,” said Philippe Dubé, director, Operations and Equipment Management, ARTM .
When the Deux-Montagnes branch is put into service, the schedules will be comparable to those currently offered on the South Shore segment:
- 5:30 a.m.: Start of service across the entire network
- Peak hours: frequency every five to seven minutes across the entire network
- Off-peak: from Brossard to Côte-de-Liesse, frequency approximately every ten minutes until 1:30 a.m.
- Off-peak: from Brossard to Deux-Montagnes, frequency approximately every ten minutes until 9:30 p.m.
After 9:30 p.m., bus service will be provided by our partners between Côte-de-Liesse and Deux-Montagnes stations. This schedule will allow for the continued testing necessary for the integration of the Anse-à-l’Orme branch next spring.
