The Canadian Design-Build Institute (CDBI) has announced the election of Gary J. Bale as its new chair, with past-chair Samuel (Uel) McFall ending his two-year term as chair. The election took place at the CDBI annual general meeting, held in conjunction with CDBI’s 2018 National Design-Build Conference.

Also announced at the annual meeting was the election of Fabrizio Carinelli, president of CANA Construction and CCA regional director, as a new vice-chair.

Bale is a principal of BALE Project Consulting, and is based out of Chilliwack, B.C. He specializes in providing executive advisory and strategic project procurement and management services, developing design-build and P3 proposals for transportation and infrastructure projects, along with project director services for the delivery and execution of major infrastructure projects in Canada.

“It is with respect to a great organization and with a sense of adventure that I accept the position of chair for the CDBI,” Bale said. “Over the past 20 years, CDBI has seen a phenomenal selection of Canadian architects, engineers, and contractors that have completed significant and impressive design-build projects. The institute will continue to be an advocate, provide best practices and industry guides to ensure owners, contractors, and subcontractors continue to produce effective solutions to the Canadian construction industry. I look forward to steering this committee throughout the next two years.”
