The Government of Quebec announced that it will begin carrying out the expansion and redevelopment project of the Hospital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR) in a single phase. The calls for tenders for this ambitious project will be launched and provide that the new building will be able to accommodate 720 beds, as planned.
Improving health care infrastructure is one of the priorities of the Health Plan, in particular to make care environments more attractive for staff, including research staff. This project thus ensures the continuity of the university mission of the hospital which has distinguished itself in recent years in fields such as cell therapy, hematology, oncology, nephrology, ophthalmology and orthopedics. It will also make it possible to better meet the needs of the population of eastern Montreal, as well as neighboring regions such as Montérégie, Laval , Lanaudière and the Laurentians.
“As we committed to the population of eastern Montreal, Montérégie and surrounding regions, the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital will be expanded, modernized and will have 720 beds. We understand the importance for the staff of our health network to work in a modern and attractive environment in order to be able to offer quality care to citizens. We want the population to be proud of their hospital. We are doing everything we can to improve access to care for Quebecers,” said Christian Dubé, Minister of Health.
In order to offer a better experience to patients and increase their comfort, the new expansion will allow the 720 beds to be converted into individual rooms.
The project includes the development of the following units:
- all care and intensive care units for a total of 720 beds in individual rooms, in addition to 26 bassinets for babies;
- an operating room, day surgery and a medical device reprocessing unit;
- medical imaging;
- a pharmacy;
- the research sector animal facility;
- all support services.
Regarding parking, HMR currently has 2,788 spaces. The planned real estate solution should increase this number to 3,500 spaces in order, in particular, to better accommodate patients and staff coming from outside Montreal by car.
“The expansion of Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital will have a notable and lasting effect on the experience of patient care and on the working conditions of hospital staff, in addition to improving the quality of life of patients. residents of eastern Montreal. This project will also generate hundreds of jobs for the years to come and is in addition to that of the extension of the blue line. Once again, with today’s announcement, our government is showing that it remains mobilized and that it is in the East that it is happening,” said Chantal Rouleau , MP for Pointe-aux-Trembles
Preparatory work will begin in summer 2025.
The Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy contributes to financing the expansion and modernization of the animal sector and research infrastructures.
