The Government of Quebec announced the start of work to redevelop Route 340 (boulevard and route de la Cité-des-Jeunes), in Vaudreuil-Dorion and Saint-Lazare.
This major project, estimated at approximately $59 million, is jointly funded by the Ministry, the Société québécoise des infrastructures and the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
“Have been awaited for so many years by the region, the brand new Vaudreuil-Soulanges regional hospital is finally being built thanks to our government. The same goes for the redevelopment of Route 340, which will be carried out through the significant investment announced today. This highly structuring project is a concrete response to the current and future mobility needs of the population of Vaudreuil-Dorion and Saint-Lazare . Our commitment to providing Quebecers, wherever they are in our territory, with access to the best services is once again demonstrated here,” said Geneviève Guilbault, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
Work is scheduled to begin in the coming days and will continue until 2028. The work will ultimately improve travel in the area in anticipation of the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges regional hospital.
“Since the beginning of my first term, I have been actively working on this project with all local and government partners. The redevelopment of Route 340 represents a major step forward in improving mobility in our region and, above all, in preparing for the arrival of the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital. This project addresses real traffic and development issues in a rapidly developing sector. I am proud today to see this structuring project come to fruition for the benefit of the entire community,” said Marilyne Picard , MP for Soulanges.
“The opening of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital is highly anticipated in the region, and it goes without saying that it will represent a pivotal moment for citizens. The redevelopment of Route 340 is an important step towards the inauguration of “our” hospital. The widening work will alleviate current traffic issues in addition to accommodating the new traffic resulting from the arrival of hospital services. This is good news for Vaudreuil-Dorion,” said Guy Pilon , Mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
The project provides for:
-
- the construction of two roundabouts on Route 340, in Vaudreuil-Dorion , the first at Rue Henry-Ford and the second at the westbound Highway 30 ramp and Boulevard de la Gare;
- pedestrian access will connect the roundabouts and the existing multi-purpose track;
- the redevelopment of two intersections in front of the future hospital, the first at the eastbound Highway 30 ramp and the second at Chemin de la Petite-Rivière;
- the redevelopment of three intersections on Route 340, in Saint-Lazare: the first at the corner of Chemin Sainte-Angélique, the second at the corner of Chemin Saint-Louis and the third at the corner of Montée Labossière;
- the development of a multi-purpose track located between Route 342 ( Harwood Road ) and the entrance to the new Vaudreuil-Soulanges regional hospital;
- This multi-purpose track will be built on a separate carriageway and will extend the existing track. This addition will promote active mobility towards the hospital;
- the complete paving of Route 340 between Chemin Sainte-Angélique, in Saint-Lazare , and Rue Henry-Ford, in Vaudreuil-Dorion ;
- planting trees to green the boulevard and thus combat heat islands.
