The Town of Caledon officially broke ground on its new $30-million Provincial Offences Act (POA) Courthouse.
“This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for our community and our continued commitment to delivering efficient, accessible public services,” said Mayor Annette Groves.
Located southeast of Town Hall off Innis Lake Road, Tthe approximately 2,295-square-metre, one-storey building will include dedicated courtroom spaces, judicial offices, court administration functions, Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) services, and a designated prosecution area.
Sustainability is a key component of the project, with features including fully electric building systems, a high-performance building envelope, rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations. These elements will help reduce energy consumption and further support the Town’s net zero goals.
The site has also been designed to prioritize accessibility and connectivity. New pedestrian links will connect the courthouse entrance to existing parking areas and the multi-use trail network, creating seamless access throughout the civic campus.
“We are proud to partner with the Town of Caledon on a project that will serve residents for decades to come,” said Sean Smithson, Pomerleau’s Regional Vice President. “This new courthouse represents a shared commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability. Our team looks forward to delivering a modern, energy-efficient facility that supports the community’s evolving needs and enhances access to important public services.”
Construction is now underway with the anticipated completion date of winter 2028.
