PCL Constructors Canada Inc. announced that three employees have been awarded 2024 Excellence Awards from the Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC). Lisa Kurina, Cheyanne Hammell and Grace Xu were each presented with awards at CAWIC’s first Annual National Conference in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

As part of CAWIC’s inaugural awards program, the Excellence Awards recognize outstanding leadership and action across the construction industry.

“Lisa, Cheyanne and Grace are inspirational leaders and dedicated professionals who are each driving construction excellence and championing industry inclusivity,” said Myke Badry, vice president and district manager. “They are exceptionally deserving of this recognition, and we applaud them for their significant contributions to PCL and the broader construction industry.”

Lisa Kurina, Operations Manager: DEI Excellence Award

The CAWIC DEI Excellence Award celebrates an outstanding individual who demonstrates ongoing leadership and commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive construction industry. With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Kurina has been a construction leader and a trusted mentor, both within and external to PCL. Kurina has paved the path for a diverse, equitable and inclusive industry through her own leadership journey into a senior operations role at PCL. Over her 25 years at PCL, Kurina has performed to her best each day and focused on her team members to ensure growth and success in their careers.

Cheyanne Hammell, Special Projects Manager: Industry Leadership Award

The CAWIC Industry Leadership Award acknowledges an individual who has made significant contributions to women in construction, the industry or their organization through their leadership, action and commitment. Hammell is a passionate community builder, a visionary leader and a dedicated role model within PCL and her community. Bringing 18 years of experience to her leadership role, Hammell stands out with her dedication to construction excellence and consistent efforts to support and encourage women into the construction industry. The 2023 Ontario Premier’s Award recipient is demonstrating the multitude of career possibilities for women in construction and in leadership positions.

Grace Xu, Project Coordinator: Emerging Leader Award

The CAWIC Emerging Leader Award celebrates an outstanding individual who shows exceptional potential, ambition and achievements as a woman starting her career in the construction industry. Three years into her construction career, Grace steps up to any challenge put in front of her with a strong, can-do attitude and encourages those around her to look at challenges the same way. With her positive attitude, Grace is focused on building her skills and helping other women in the industry as she progresses. On top of her mentorship abilities, Grace continually demonstrates construction excellence to ensure project success.
