About The Project

The original Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine Tunnel was constructed in 1967 and needed significant rehabilitation. In July 2020, the contract was awarded for the rehabilitation project. Construction work began in 2021. The main work in the tunnel consists of carrying out major structural repairs, modernizing operating equipment, redeveloping service corridors, and adding fire protection. The repair of the pavement of autoroute 25 northbound began in 2023 and will continue in 2024. Concreting of walls and arches are underway in the tunnel’s southbound tube, as is the work to modernize operation systems.
