About The Project

This project—previously listed as the Winnipeg Capital Integration Project—will be the City of Winnipeg’s largest infrastructure project to date. It involves significant components in the southwest quadrant of the city, including completion of Stage 2 of the Southwest Transitway, the addition of active transportation infrastructure, and the renewal and expansion of the Pembina Underpass. Stage 2 will extend the transitway from the Pembina Highway and Jubilee Avenue south to the University of Manitoba.

Completion of the project will represent a significant step forward in building the transportation network outlined in the city’s transportation master plan and will help promote the increased densification of Winnipeg by facilitating the future development of several large-scale, infill, transit-oriented developments. Construction has started; with completion expected in late 2019. Operator training and facility commissioning will be carried out, with full operation expected to commence in April 2020.
