Line 6 Finch West LRT officially opened to riders

Line 6 Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) officially opened to customers on Dec. 7.

“I am delighted to be welcoming customers on board the newly opened Line 6 Finch West. This is an important milestone for transit in Toronto, and the TTC has been working tirelessly days, nights and weekends preparing for this day to be ready to deliver a safe, reliable and outstanding customer experience,” said TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali. “We look forward to continuing to work with our union partners and Metrolinx to provide customers with the efficient and reliable service that they expect.”

“The opening of the Finch West LRT is terrific news for commuters, delivering a fast, reliable and affordable way to travel across Toronto’s northwest,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Our government will continue investing in the largest infrastructure plan in Canadian history — building highways, roads and subways — to get families and workers out of gridlock and keep Ontario moving.”

The line, also known as Line 6 Finch West, includes two stations and 16 stops across more than 10 kilometres and is projected to carry 12 million riders annually by 2031. It runs on a dedicated, primarily street-level track along Finch Avenue West, from Finch West Station on TTC Line 1 (Yonge-University) to Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus at Humber College Station. The Finch West LRT willoffer convenient connections to local and regional transit, including TTC buses, GO Transit, MiWay, York Region Transit and Brampton Züm, making transfers simple and affordable so people spend less time in traffic and more time at home.

“Line 6 Finch West is here and it belongs to the people who will ride it every day,” said Olivia Chow, Mayor of Toronto. “Thank you to the builders, the TTC workers who will operate the line and the neighbourhoods along the corridor who made this possible. With the TTC fare freeze now in place for three years, more residents will have the reliable, accessible and affordable transit they deserve, and Toronto continues to be a caring city that delivers.”

“Bringing the vision of the Finch West LRT to life has been a remarkable journey. We thank the incredible community of builders and partners who worked with us on this project, who have produced countless benefits that will serve generations to come,” said Angela Clayton, president and CEO, Infrastructure Ontario.

The consortium Mosaic Transit Group designed, built and will maintain the Finch West Light Rail Transit project. The consortium is comprised of three companies: ACS Infrastructure Canada Inc.; Aecon Concessions, a division of Aecon Construction Group Inc.; and CRH Canada Group Inc.

“Opening the Finch West LRT to the public is an incredible step forward in modernizing Toronto’s transit network — helping to relieve congestion, connect communities and meet the needs of growing populations. Along with our Mosaic Transit Group team, the Government of Ontario, Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx, we are extremely proud to see the Finch West LRT benefiting local and surrounding communities and we look forward to continuing to play a key role through the 30-year maintenance term,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, Aecon Group Inc.
