One of the most significant and visible components of Calgary’s Green Line LRT is moving forward with the award of the Bow River contract to Aecon, marking the start of construction on a key section of the alignment.
Stretching from north of the Lynnwood/Millican station to west of Deerfoot Trail, Aecon will construct three major structures: the Ogden Road bridge, the Bow River bridge and the Deerfoot Trail bridge. The project also includes a new multi-use pathway that will run alongside the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail bridges, improving mobility for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the area. Collectively, these crossings will provide a critical connection within Calgary’s growing transit network while reshaping the landscape of southeast Calgary.
“We are proud to bring our comprehensive civil and transportation expertise to this important Green Line LRT project and look forward to partnering with the City of Calgary. For more than 60 years, Aecon has been part of Calgary’s growth, and we’re excited to continue that legacy by delivering infrastructure that will serve Calgarians for generations to come,” says Scott Marshall, Senior Vice President, Major Projects, Civil West, Aecon.
The Green Line LRT is No. 13 on ReNew Canada’s 2026 Top100 Projects.
Ogden Road bridge
This bridge will support Green Line operations by crossing Ogden Road without impeding roadway traffic below. The bridge forms the eastern gateway to the Bow River crossing corridor and connects to adjacent guideway infrastructure and retaining structures.
Bow River bridge
This complex structure will require specialized engineering, environmental protection measures and sequencing to safely construct a bridge across one of Calgary’s most important natural corridors. The bridge will also accommodate a parallel multi-use pathway connection for pedestrians and cyclists.
Deerfoot Trail bridge
This bridge will carry Green Line trains and the adjacent multi-use pathway across one of Calgary’s busiest roads.
