ACEC-BC hands out annual Awards for Engineering Excellence

Every day, consulting engineering firms across British Columbia deliver innovative, essential, and community-shaping projects. On May 23, the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies British Columbia (ACEC-BC) celebrated these achievements at its annual Awards for Engineering Excellence, recognizing outstanding contributions in innovation, technical excellence, collaboration, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

In a special prerecorded message, Premier David Eby commended the profession:

“British Columbia has a well-deserved and hard-earned reputation for innovation and engineering. The ACEC-BC community continues to amaze us all by using skills and imagination to help build a better world. BC Consulting Engineers do remarkable work in designing and delivering the critical infrastructure on which we all depend.”

“This is a moment to celebrate the engineers who keep our economy and communities moving” said Caroline Andrewes, P.Eng., CPA, CMA, President and CEO of ACEC-BC. “With more than $5 billion in annual economic impact in BC and over 14,000 high-value jobs supported across the province, our members are delivering world-class projects in BC, across Canada, and globally.”

Recognizing Project Excellence

Since 1989, the ACEC-BC Awards program has celebrated the best in consulting engineering. The 2025 Awards for Engineering Excellence received more than 50 nominations across a diverse range of categories, including Buildings, Bridges, Energy and Industry, Municipal and Civil Infrastructure, Natural Resource and Habitat, Projects Under $2.5 Million, Soft Engineering, and Transportation.

This year, 16 organizations were honoured for exceptional projects in BC, across Canada, and in the United States.

Award recipients include:

Klohn Crippen Berger, AtkinsRéalis, WSP, Tetra Tech, RJC Engineers, McElhanney, BGC Engineering, Knight Piésold, Kiewit Engineering Group Canada, Delve Underground, Binnie, Fast+Epp, Hatch, CDM Smith Canada, Kerr Wood Leidal Associates, and Stantec.

Celebrating Leadership and Career Impact

ACEC-BC also honours individuals who have made lasting contributions to the profession, industry, and broader community.

Allan Russell

Allan Russell, P.Eng., ICD.D, CEO Emeritus at McElhanney, received the Meritorious Achievement Award. The jury recognized his long-standing industry leadership, including cross-business collaboration and crisis response, particularly during the 2021 atmospheric river emergency, where McElhanney shared critical data to support rapid public-sector response. Gurleen Gang

Gurleen Gang, AScT., P.Eng., PMP, Municipal Sector Lead / Project Engineer at Ecora Engineering & Environmental, received the Young Professional Award, recognizing excellence in consulting business practices, advocacy, community leadership, and technical achievement. Learn more here.

 

 

 

“Our award recipients—both individuals and organizations—are a testament to the power of consulting engineering,” said Andrewes. “They reflect our shared belief that we are better together and demonstrate the deep-rooted commitment ACEC-BC members have to their communities and profession.”
