The City of Brampton has secured over $106 million in annual transit funding through the new Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF).
The funding will help Brampton Transit upgrade, replace and modernize its infrastructure while maintaining a state of good repair.
“This investment in Brampton Transit is a major step forward in expanding and modernizing our transit system. As Ontario’s third-largest city, Brampton needs a strong, sustainable transit infrastructure to support our residents and drive economic growth. The Canada Public Transit Fund will help us build a more reliable, accessible and environmentally responsible transit network,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
The Canada Public Transit Fund is the largest public transit investment in Canadian history, addressing the needs of communities of all sizes, including large metropolitan areas, mid-size and smaller communities and rural, remote, northern and Indigenous communities.
Through the CPTF’s Baseline Funding stream, Brampton will receive $106,239,450 over ten years, from 2026 to 2036. This investment will enhance the transit system, increase housing supply and affordability as part of complete, transit-oriented communities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while mitigating climate change impacts.
“This funding provides Brampton Transit with the resources to enhance service reliability, modernize our fleet and improve transit infrastructure. Investing in transit helps meet the needs of our growing community while supporting sustainability and innovation in public transportation,” said Heidi Dempster, General Manager, Brampton Transit.
“With over $106 million in funding through the new Canada Public Transit Fund, the federal government is securing long-term, predictable support for public transit in Brampton. This investment will alleviate the financial burden on property taxpayers to strengthen local transit infrastructure, making it easier for residents to connect with jobs, services and their communities,” said Sonia Sidhu, MP for Brampton South.
