The Government of New Brunswick announced construction has started on a new nursing home in the Village of Saint-Isidore, in the Acadian Peninsula. The $29.7 million facility will add 60 beds to the province’s nursing home network.

“We are making more investments in long-term care services to make sure more nursing home beds will be available for New Brunswick’s aging population,” said Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard. “Thanks to the partnership with La Villa St. Joseph ltée, more services will be provided to seniors of the Acadian Peninsula in the future.”

The new facility, Villa St-Isidore, will be in the heart of the village on land donated by the late Richard Losier, a local businessman and philanthropist. A partnership of local businesses will build the facility and lease it to La Villa St. Joseph ltée / Villa St-Isidore Nursing Home Partnership to operate it.

“We are so happy to be able to develop such an important facility in Saint-Isidore and the Acadian Peninsula,” said Ronald Losier, representing the group of local investors. “The new nursing home is a genuine community project that brings together many partners for the benefit of our seniors while creating job opportunities for the whole region.”

Villa St-Isidore is expected to be open by Spring 2024 and will feature a campus of multiple connected buildings consisting of several resident households. It will promote resident-centered care in a home-like setting.

“These types of facilities allow for flexibility for residents with similar needs,” said Oscar Roussel, chair of the board of La Villa St. Joseph ltée. “With the ability to tailor the activities of each house to the needs and preferences of the residents, resident care can be provided by the same staff, which will enhance continuity of care and contact with the residents and families.”
