The Ontario Ministry of Health and Halton Healthcare announced the official start of construction on a major hospital expansion at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) that will add up to 123 new acute care beds across OTMH and Milton District Hospital (MDH).
Supported by a provincial investment of more than $154 million, the project will add over 110 inpatient beds and approximately 79,000 square feet of renovated space at OTMH.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Halton and surrounding regions can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “As part of our $64 billion health infrastructure plan, today’s milestone means more families in the region will have access to world-class hospital care, closer to home.”
The announcement marks a major milestone in expanding hospital capacity to meet the needs of one of Ontario’s fastest‑growing and aging regions. By activating purpose‑built but unfinished space across three floors at OTMH, and one floor at MDH, Halton Healthcare will rapidly increase inpatient capacity without the need to build a new facility.

Once construction is completed by the end of 2027, this expansion will create additional acute care capacity to better serve the almost 400,000 residents of Oakville, Halton Hills and Milton, as well as surrounding communities.
