The City of Vaughan celebrated the completion of the Kirby Road extension between Bathurst Street and Dufferin Street, a major infrastructure milestone for the city, improving connectivity and reducing gridlock.
Extending Kirby Road in this area is part of the Council-approved Nine Point Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock and is a significant infrastructure development in Vaughan. The total project cost is $65 million, with $45 million coming from the City of Vaughan and $20 million from the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
“The extension of Kirby Road is a key part of the Council-approved Nine Point Action Plan to Fight Traffic Gridlock. With a total investment of $65 million – including $45 million from the City and $20 million from the federal government – this project showcases what strong partnerships can achieve, and I thank the Government of Canada for their significant contribution. Together, we are delivering infrastructure that supports growth while making everyday life better for residents,” said Mayor Steven Del Duca.
The newly completed roadway features:
- four lanes (two in each direction) to improve traffic flow.
- a new bridge crossing East Patterson Creek.
- in-boulevard multi-use pathways on both sides of the road for cyclists and pedestrians.
- new roadway lighting to enhance safety and visibility.
- intersection upgrades at Dufferin Street and Bathurst Street.
- new streetscaping
