The Manitoba government has now fully disbursed a $15-million commitment to the Thompson Regional Airport rehabilitation project, helping unlock a broader investment package that will modernize one of northern Manitoba’s most important transportation hubs.
“The Thompson Regional Airport is a critical connection point for northern communities, businesses and essential services,” said Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew. “This investment helps ensure residents and visitors can rely on safe, modern infrastructure while supporting economic opportunities throughout northern Manitoba.”
The rehabilitation project, led by the Thompson Regional Airport Authority, is valued at more than $105 million and includes the construction of a new airport terminal, upgrades to non-airside infrastructure and an extension of municipal sewage services.
“Today’s milestone demonstrates what can be achieved when governments and partners work together to invest in the future of northern Manitoba,” said Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor. “These upgrades will improve the passenger experience, strengthen transportation links and help position Thompson for future growth.”
In addition to its $15-million contribution, the Manitoba government invested approximately $2.8 million to realign the airport access road from Provincial Road 391, improving access to the new airport facilities, the minister noted.
“Unlocking the north’s full potential depends on reliable infrastructure that makes these connections possible. This new terminal strengthens our role as a vital northern gateway and creates new opportunities for the communities we serve,” said James Lindsey, president and CEO, Thompson Regional Airport Authority.
