About The Project

Hydro-Québec’s modernization work on the Trenche generating station on the Saint-Maurice River aims to extend the life of this facility, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2025. Replacing the six turbine-generator units with state-of-the-art models will also increase the plant’s installed capacity by approximately 15 per cent, from 302 to 350 megawatts, without changing the flow of the river. The rehabilitation is a major project requiring two years of preparatory work. This began in January 2025 and continue until 2027. The turbine-alternator units will be replaced at a rate of one per year from 2027 to 2033, at the same time as work will be carried out on the upstream and downstream decks. .
