Black & McDonald Limited has been awarded the contract for construction projects and services for Bruce Power’s Unit 6 Major Component Replacement (MCR) project.

Under the contract, Black & McDonald will provide construction services and project execution for 19 individual mechanical and electrical projects. In addition, the company will procure material and fabricated components for use in the construction projects.

Works associated with this contract are already underway, as extensive planning is required before the Unit 6 outage begins in January 2020. At its peak, Black & McDonald will employ more than 250 trades and 75 management and technical personnel on the contract. The work will conclude when the unit is returned to service in 2024.

“We are looking forward to building a long-term partnership with Bruce Power and collaborating to ensure the success of these projects,” said Mark Healy, regional vice president of Power Generation Region for Black & McDonald. “We are also excited to be part of an Ontario solution and to be able to bring quality employment opportunities to the local Tri-County community”.

Black & McDonald Co-CEO Ian McDonald added, “We are excited to support Bruce Power in its commitment to provide the province with clean, reliable, and economical energy. As a collaborative partner to both Bruce Power and the community, we look forward to executing the work safely, on time and on budget.”

“By forming these valued partnerships with our suppliers, we have secured Made in Ontario solutions for the components we will need to successfully complete our MCR projects, extending the life of our site to 2064,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO.
