Construction is underway to build the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton. The new health care facility will include improved equipment and facilities such as a 24-hour emergency department, connecting more people in Bay of Quinte.

“The new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is another example of how we are investing in the health care needs of Ontario’s growing communities to deliver the highest standard of care for decades to come,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

To date, the Ontario government has provided $10 million in capital funding to build the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. Once opened, the new hospital will connect families in the region to the hospital care they need now and for years to come, including:

  • 23 in-patient beds
  • A larger, 24/7 emergency department that will provide more space for staff and patients
  • Modern surgical suites to deliver care with the best technology available
  • Dialysis treatments and diagnostic imaging
  • Outpatient care services including minor surgical procedures such as endoscopies

“Today, after years of advocacy and planning, we put our shovels in the ground together to build a state-of-the-art hospital for Prince Edward County. It’s a terrific moment for health care in our community,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte. “I’m grateful to Quinte Health for its leadership and the many Back the Build partners who rose to the challenge in support of this project. Our Minister of Health Sylvia Jones has recognized this steadfast determination, and our government has given its approval for construction. I’m very much looking forward to the grand opening.”

The Quinte Health redevelopment team is busy behind the scenes finalizing schedules, reviewing shop drawings for major systems and developing site logistics and phasing plans. In September, the contractor, M. Sullivan & Son Limited, will begin mobilizing: setting up the site with fencing, site trailers, and other essential preparations.  Working together, we will ensure that hospital operations continue uninterrupted.

“It’s the culmination of hard work, passion, generosity, and good old-fashioned tenacity that has brought us to this exciting milestone. After more than a decade, we are moving forward with the build-phase of the new hospital, and I am filled with gratitude. I am grateful to our steadfast project partners, to every donor across the community who has Backed the Build, and to Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith for his unwavering support. I’m also thankful for the support and guidance of our ministry and Infrastructure Ontario partners,” said Stacey Daub, president and CEO, Quinte Health.
