Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences have issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for teams to design, build and finance the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital redevelopment project. The request for qualifications is the first step in the process to select a design-build team to help deliver the project.

The current West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, located in Grimsby, Ont., is over 70 years old. The facility boasts both outpatient and inpatient services, emergency services, a maternal and newborn program, surgery, and complex and palliative care. The proposed facility would nearly double the hospital’s size, from 65,000 sq. ft. to roughly 120,000 sq. ft. according to the stage 2 plan submission. The new hospital, according to the plan, would be built behind the current facility. Once the new hospital is built, the current hospital would be demolished.

In the September 2020 edition of Infrastructure Ontario’s P3 Market Update, the hospital project is listed in the $200 million to $499 million cost range.

Submissions will be reviewed to shortlist teams with the required design and construction experience applicable to this project, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and complexity. Shortlisted teams will then be invited to respond to a request for proposals, which is expected to be released in mid-2021.
