The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has awarded a contract to Brook Construction to design and construct a new school in St. Alban’s. The contract is valued at approximately $16.2 million.

“We are pleased to have awarded the contract to design and build a new school in St. Alban’s. This school and construction on schools in Gander, Paradise and Bay Roberts is providing students in these regions with new facilities and modern features that will help them meet their best educational outcome,” said Steve Crocker, Minister of Transportation and Works.

The new school will be 50,900 square feet with 16 classrooms over two floors, located on Church Street in St. Alban’s, and accommodate approximately 210 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in the Bay d’Espoir region.

It will also include a library, music room, science lab, computer lab, art room, skilled trades and home economics spaces, fitness centre and full sized, 6,329 square foot gymnasium.

“I am extremely pleased to see the beginning of construction of this brand new school in St. Alban’s. This vital piece of infrastructure is important to the entire Bay d’Espoir area and will be a safe and modern place for our teachers to teach and our children to learn and thrive,” said Elvis Loveless, MHA for Fortune Bay – Cape La Hune.

Design work will be completed this winter and construction will begin in the spring of 2020 and the new school is anticipated to open in September 2021.
